Training
All Digimap for Schools training is FREE. Our training comprises short online sessions that you can attend from the comfort of your desk. We demonstrate the service, give tips and suggestions and there is plenty of time for questions. You just need a computer (or tablet) with speakers that is connected to the internet. Our training sessions are open to anyone interested in Digimap for Schools and you can attend as many sessions as you wish.
Recordings of webinars will only be available after the event to those who register. If you are interested in the event, but aren't sure you can attend, please register anyway. You will still be sent an email with a link to the recording after the event. Recordings will not be available to anyone who does not register for an event.

Discover how to use historic maps in Digimap for Schools to explore how your neighbourhood has changed over time—industry, housing, and transport—and to build pride in place. Bring time‑travel into the classroom without leaving the school grounds or stretching the timetable.

Primary and secondary teachers who want to enrich local history and geography with rigorous, map‑based enquiry when off‑site visits are hard to organise.
Who is this training for?
This session is for primary and secondary teachers who want to develop pupils’ confidence using maps for local journeys and community life. Especially when time is tight or transport is limited.
What will we cover
- How to access and compare historical and contemporary maps to trace change and continuity in streets, land use, green space, rivers, and railways.
- Techniques for using 2Up, overlay, and annotation activities that help pupils gather “map evidence” and tell the story of their area.
- Ideas for doorstep fieldwork: plotting short walks to locate old landmarks, street patterns, and surviving features.
- Approaches to connect findings to curriculum themes such as industrial heritage, post‑war housing, transport links, and regeneration, using activities that are low‑prep and device‑agnostic.
